For everyone who thought I’d be the last person on the planet to quote Oprah Winfrey to make a point, well… Let’s just say that, prior to this post, I would have applauded you and had no doubt that you were right. But this is one of the best quotes on mentors that I could find:

“A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.”

You can look for a mentor in your community – someone who will guide you through the process of becoming. Or you can turn to Shannon Cutts’ MentorCONNECT.

For the sake of full disclosure, I am not at all associated with MentorCONNECT except for an awareness of the program/site; I feel like my experience isn’t necessarily relate-able for most of those who are seeking a mentor. I have messaged Shannon on Facebook asking her to keep me in mind if there is someone who is looking for a mentor with experiences more like mine, but that’s it.

Still, I think it’s a brilliant idea to pair up those who are looking for recovery with those who have been there. Seeing that someone else has done what feels almost impossible to us gives us hope, and the relationship allows us to grow and to fulfill that hope for ourselves.
